I have a running list of the plants and animals on my personal "to draw list" and during my residency I decided to start as many as I could because for me it's often easier to continue that it is to begin. The Black Tailed Jack Rabbit was the first of six new drawings that began in Raven Studio and was among a handful of animals I saw near the studios while out walking in the mornings or evenings. I consider these sightings as signs, affirmations of my experience and the ever present wild among us.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sheila Metcalf Tobin holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. She uses drawing and collage to orchestrate compositions that convey the complexity and beauty of the kinship we share with our wild counterparts.
