Jill Haas, Where The Wind Blew
Where The Wind Blew hand painted paper swatches collaged to canvas 24x24x1.5 2024 $800.00
From her solo exhibition, More Than Ever
on view November 29 - December 22, 2024
This exhibition highlights the artist’s focus on floral forms using a unique process of cutting shapes and forms from pre-painted papers the artist creates. Both bold and graphic, Haas’s work illustrates leaves and blooms unfolding and exploding with color and life. The simplified and abstracted forms simultaneously express tenacity and fragility, a reference to the current climate crisis and its effects on the natural world.
Haas was drawn to florals from her mother and grandmother who painted botanicals, and from her grandfather, who created a new variety of Lily. She calls her works “plant portraits”, and credits her penchant for using sharp edges and flat shapes to her 30-year career working with digital images.
Her work is in private collections throughout Pennsylvania, New York, Rhode Island, and California. Haas graduated from the University of Delaware and studied painting privately. This is her first solo exhibition at the gallery, and her first showing in Santa Fe, NM.
