STATEMENT

My work always begins with nature. When I am wandering through a garden, a forest or along the ocean shoreline I feel truly connected to the land. When I am outside, I am soaking in the world with all my senses. I love to take notes about my observations, make lists or sketch what I am seeing and to gather natural or found objects to take back to my studio. I draw endless inspiration from landscapes, from the breathtaking mountains and seascapes of the Pacific Northwest where I live to lands that are far away.

My mixed media work encompasses various artistic mediums, from collage and painting to utilizing found objects in books and assemblage. I love to play and connect with my inner muse in a loose and abstract manner. Honoring my creativity involves my time in my studio, my garden and when I am teaching. It was when I reconnected with the joy in experimentation with different mediums and art forms and the feeling of “play” did I begin to create from a place of authenticity. It was like I became more of myself, reconnecting to my soul. Then, my artwork, books, and workshops gained widespread recognition.
