STATEMENT

Experiencing trauma as a child greatly influenced my need to escape from reality. I did so by writing and illustrating short stories, triggering an interest in drawing and painting. My parents discouraged me to pursue a career in the arts and ultimately, I obtained a doctoral degree in Biochemistry. After 15 years in biomedical research, I experienced a major shift in thinking about my life’s purpose, leading me to follow my lifelong passion of being an artist.

Self-taught and mentored by several established artists, I create abstracted paintings by layering alcohol inks and other media. Drawing from my scientific roots, part of my art-making process involves experimenting with different paints and mediums to create magical compositions. My abstract paintings are created with vibrant colors, intended to evoke joy and healing within those who behold them. I describe my artistic journey as one of perpetual discovery. I love applying new techniques to create textured paintings with organic forms and fluid lines. I begin each creation by writing a personal narrative on the canvas, knowing that the words will be hidden beneath layers of paint.

My artwork is inspired by a deep connection to the natural world. A palette of colors and an array of textures found in nature find their way into my artwork. My ultimate goal is to create dynamic, large pieces of artwork that speak to the viewer’s heart.
